Welcome

What is phantomcode?
There is a lot of magic stuff called programming that makes web pages and other multi-user computer systems work. That sort of stuff is normally unseen by the average end user, but somebody has to know how to make it work. The programming responsible is known to the type of people who do it for a living as "code" and a "phantom" is of course something unseen. Taken together, this site is about how to do that phantom (invisible) code (programming) with bits and pieces from someone who wants to use computers in ways that make the world just a little better.

Visitors familiar with phantomcode.com will notice a rather dramatic difference. Phantomcode.com and phantomcode.org were for a long time mirror sites with one being used for development work and the other for the finished product and lately both were the same thing. The .com site now is being dedicated to computer stuff, both the hobby and professional side of my experiences. The .org site is now being used to host the personal stuff, the beliefs, opinions and political stuff which is less professional and more personal.

Phantomcode.org
has the content of the old site and is, for now, unchanged. That site runs from my own server and is more prone to service interruption so I'm moving content onto Google's servers. There will be a period of growth as I learn how to use their systems. As an experiment, I've also begun using Google's appengine to develop a website, which is geared toward the kind of content that the .org site will be doing in the future. That site is at http://app.phantomcode.org and has some stuff like culinary reviews.  In the future, I'd like to see isawyoudrive.com be hosted there. The site isawyoudrive.com is intended to be a driver feedback site where with a license plate and a state, you can offer opinions about anyone's driving. It should at some point evolve into a system where you can also monitor reviews that other drivers have of you.
